Realizing a childhood dream
From an early age, Ayse Sissoko nurtured an all-consuming passion for African music. Lulled by the melodies of Salif Keita and Oumou Sangaré, she developed a keen interest in interviewing artists and writing song lyrics. This passion naturally led her to journalism, which she sees as a way of giving a voice to artists and sharing the richness of African culture.
Her academic career was marked by a quest for self-fulfilment. After starting out in law, she switched to journalism studies at the Institut Européen de Journalisme, where she acquired the technical skills essential to the profession: radio, television, audio and video editing, writing. At the same time as her studies, she co-founded the online medium African Move, a decisive experience that gave her hands-on experience of the journalistic profession: interviews, reporting, editing, articles. This total immersion in the field reinforced her love of journalism and honed her professional identity.
Committed journalist
Ayse Sissoko’s expertise is now widely recognized. After a spell at Jeune Afrique, she joined Trace, where she successively held the positions of Community Manager and Social Media Manager. Her love of music and interviews led her to put her knowledge of the African music scene to good use, interviewing numerous artists and bringing significant added value to the medium.
In 2021, she joined Brut Afrique as a journalist, a major turning point in her career. There, she conducts interviews, reports and documentaries, traveling across the continent to capture authentic and inspiring stories. Her journalistic approach is characterized by a desire to highlight the positive, to give a voice to those who have something to say, and to highlight the richness of African culture.
