In the effervescent panorama of African fashion, some brands manage to transcend borders and make history. Romzy Studio, founded by Roméo Mokani, is one such brand. In just one year, the Senegalese brand has multiplied successes, from the opening of its first physical boutique to an emblematic cover for Rolling Stone Africa. More than just a clothing line, Romzy Studio is a manifesto of creativity, commitment and vision, driven by an iconic piece: the “Skin Dress”. Immerse yourself in the story of a meteoric rise, where intuition and hard work redefine African luxury.

The Skinprint campaign breaks the taboo of skin diseases

The year 2024 marks a turning point for Romzy Studio with the launch of the “Skinprint” campaign. For Roméo Mokani, this initiative is first and foremost a personal conviction, an “impulse from the heart” aimed at breaking the taboos surrounding the stigmatization and exclusion associated with skin differences. A message matured over four years, which took shape despite the initial doubts of his partner Yann and the absence of sponsors. “If I have to do a project without you, I’ll be ready to do it without you,” he said, underlining his determination.

This project, originally non-commercial, created a collective momentum, mobilizing a team of volunteers and unexpected support. The results were immediate: strong media coverage, with appearances in Vogue Italia and other international media, positioning Romzy among the African brands to watch in 2025. This campaign proved the power of an authentic message and the power of fashion as a vector for social transformation.

Le bois sacré, a boutique born of opportunity

The year 2025 kicks off with another surprise: the unexpected opening of the first Romzy Studio boutique in Dakar, christened “Le Bois Sacré”. What began as a chance real estate ad turned into an opportunity seized on the spur of the moment. “We weren’t ready, but did we really want to take on this new challenge?” recalls Roméo. In a matter of days, the decision was made, guided by strong intuition and unshakeable faith.

This boutique, inaugurated on April 25, 2025 – a symbolic date for Roméo – is much more than just a sales outlet. It is an extension of the Romzy universe, a “living” space where harmony, unity and creativity can be felt. The opening has had a major impact on business: increased sales, stronger brand awareness and a more intimate customer relationship. Customers can now meet the team, discover the workshop and even order bespoke pieces, creating a unique bond with the brand.

One of Romzy Studio’s strongest choices was to hire a saleswoman with vitiligo, who had taken part in the Skinprint campaign. This gesture, far from being “diversity washing”, is a sincere commitment that “breaks codes, breaks preconceived ideas” and extends the brand’s message of inclusion directly into contact with the public.

Skin Dress, the iconic Romzy Studio product

At the heart of this rise is the “Skin Dress”, Romzy Studio’s iconic dress. Born almost by chance, this piece quickly became a best-seller and the symbol of the brand. Its design, combining cultural fusion and modernity, enables it to be worn all over the world without falling into clichés. “It’s a dress with a strong character,” explains Romeo, capable of changing mood according to color and material.

The “Skin Dress” enjoyed exceptional visibility. After being worn by celebrities at Cannes-Séries, it caused a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival, worn by an Indian artist, proving its universality. The highlight was its appearance on the cover of the first French-language edition of Rolling Stone Africa, worn by superstar Ciara. The anecdote is revealing: Ciara immediately chose the dress, wishing to wear it “barefoot, without artificial hair”, to “honor her origins” and assert: “this dress, I’m wearing it, it’s Africa I’m wearing.”

For Romeo, the “Skin Dress” has reached its apogee: “the message, it’s reached very high.” It embodies the brand’s commitment and power to inspire, to reconnect people to their identity.

Romzy Studio, a philosophy of unity and innovation

Romzy Studio is distinguished by a corporate philosophy focused on people and authenticity. The close-knit team operates like a family, with each member bringing his or her own special talents to the table. “We really have a family spirit,” insists Roméo. This synergy is reflected in the quality of the designs and in the relationship with customers, who buy not just a garment, but “a whole story, a whole commitment, a whole universe.”

The future of Romzy Studio promises to be rich in collaborations and partnerships. The first major project will be the development of the Rolling Stone Africa print magazine, with a celebratory event in Dakar to thank all those who have contributed to the brand’s success. Roméo Mokani continues to work with resilience and determination, proving that patience and quality work are the keys to reaching new heights. Romzy Studio is not just a fashion brand; it’s a movement that inspires, innovates and raises the colors of African creativity on the world stage.
