When Ibrahim Fernandez dresses the Ivory Coast Elephants for the 2026 World Cup

For their official departure for the 2026 World Cup, the Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire are sporting an iconic silhouette designed by Ibrahim Fernandez. With a flamboyant jacket adorned with an embroidered elephant on the back, this creation transcends simple clothing to become a symbol of sacred union, cultural pride and stylistic sovereignty.

There are times when clothing goes beyond its primary function to become a national narrative. When designer Ibrahim Fernandez unveiled the official kit of the Côte d’Ivoire national team for its departure to the 2026 World Cup, he did more than just create a travel collection: he engraved the identity and fervor of an entire people on the backs of their heroes.

The silhouette of the sacred union

The silhouette designed by Ibrahim Fernandez is striking for its chromatic boldness and cultural appropriateness. The players wear a structured jacket in flamboyant shades of orange and saffron, evoking traditional artisanal dyeing techniques yet with a resolutely contemporary modernity. This strong piece is paired with immaculate, flowing white pants, creating a contrast of absolute elegance.

But the masterpiece is on the back. A majestic elephant, the nation’s totem, is entirely embroidered and beaded by hand, shining brightly in the light. An artistic choice with great meaning for the designer:

“When our team takes the field, it’s never alone. That elephant on our back is a reminder that there are millions of us to carry her, support her, celebrate her.”

Clothing as a vector of cultural sovereignty

This historic collaboration is part of a global movement in which African nations are reclaiming the ownership and enhancement of their own narratives. By entrusting the dressing of the national team to one of its most talented designers, the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) is sending a strong signal of Soft Power and confidence in local excellence.

For Ibrahim Fernandez, whose high-end collections are already thrilling the fashion capitals, notably at the eagerly-awaited Africa Now pop-up at Galeries Lafayette this June, this project takes on a sacred dimension.

“There are projects that go beyond fashion. Today, I feel immense pride… Pride in having been part of this adventure, but above all deep gratitude in knowing that my proposal has been chosen to tell part of our story.”

A human adventure

Behind the splendor of the jackets worn by the players lies a team effort and a synergy of committed players. The designer expressed his deep gratitude to his close friends and collaborators, in particular Mr Adigo, Maimouna, Guyserge, Rodrigue, Habyba and his team, as well as to Mr Akou and FIF President Yacine Idriss Diallo, for their trust and unfailing support.

Ibrahim Fernandez has announced an exclusive collector’s edition for fashion enthusiasts and fans who want to own a piece of this epic design story. This will be limited to just 10 numbered copies, available directly from the brand’s website.

As the Elephants take off for the World Cup with the hopes of millions of fans, they are already carrying on their shoulders the finest of luggage, the excellence of Ivorian craftsmanship and the strength of the Ivorian identity.
